Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)

Final Fantasy VII

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Alright folks. This is not a review. I just want to tell that after struggling for time over the past three months, I have finally completed my “100% completion” of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Yeap, that means:

  • Collected all items, each as maximum as I can get. And I did not miss any miss-able items.
  • Unlocked all Shops.
  • Obtained the Genji Helm, Genji Armor, all Flower Wagons.
  • Defeated Minerva – it was not so difficult after all, once you get the hang of it. It could take a long time, that is all.
  • Completed a wonderful set of materias, with awesome statistics. Now I will not get detail on the materia combinations, but they are the best.
  • Unlocked all Mails.
  • Maxed Level.
  • Unlocked all DMWs with maxed out Limit Breaks/Verges and Progress Screen – meaning I unlocked all the memory scenes as well.
  • Completed all Missions.

This is faster than I originally anticipated. Well, this is what I get when I spend about three hours every weekend religiously just on this wonderful game.

Now, I know I said I will not do any review, but a little will not hurt right. Those of you who played Final Fantasy VII would know about Zack Fair, the true face behind Cloud Strife’s outward personality. I always liked this guy for some reason. And when Crisis Core came out, he is as every bit as I imagined. Actually he is better because he is not as cold as Cloud is.

The wonderful thing about Crisis Core is that unlike any of the other Final Fantasy games, you already what is going to happen in the end – Crisis Core is a prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII. Zack Fair would meet his end at the end of the game. Throughout the game, various references to Final Fantasy VII is made, and these sets the tone right.

For example, in Crisis Core, it would be revealed why Aeris wears that pink ribbon on her hair. Gamers will also be made known how Tifa’s bar, the 7th Heaven, name comes from. It would also reveal the true story behind what exactly happened in Nibelheim during Sephiroth’s raid – all in the eyes of the courages Zack Fair.

Gamers will also be introduced to Sephiroth during his good days, before he becomes lost. One of the more interesting moment in this game is when Cloud was introduced in the movie, also the first time when Zack and Aeris meet, and eventually how they become a couple.

All these events made me feel nostalgic, more so because we know what would happen to Zack at the end of the game. And that moment is so sad, so very sad, that it would make any sane human cry their lungs out. And shortly after that, in one brief moment, we see how Cloud inherits Zack’s personality within him.

Games of today are very different than what they use to be. They have become so complex that they capture the emotions of us gamers. And for that reason, I am glad to be a gamer.
